11 Christians dead in attack on Nigerian Church

ShekinahToday 25.11.2012: The Protestant Church of St Andrews in Jaji in the state of Kaduna in Nigeria has been hit by two suicide bombings with 11 people killed and about 30 injured.

Shortly after the Sunday’s Mass on 25th of November 2012,  a mini bus drove into the barracks and exploded. When people gathered round the spot another vehicle was driven into the scene and detonated.

A military spokesman stated that “The first blast caused no casualties and curious worshippers gathered around the scene looking at the debris… and that was when the second blast happened”

11 people were killed and 30 injured. Most victims were members of the Church Choir.

The incident has been attributed to the Islamic fundamentalist group Boko Haram which aims on bringing down the government and imposing a strict Sharia based law in Nigeria.

The North of Nigeria has a large Muslim majority while the Nigerian South is mainly Christian. The state of Kaduna is the divining line between these territories.

Boko Haram terrorizes the Christian Minority in Northern Nigeria in a frequent manner. However, today’s attack appears to be aiming directly on the military.

On Friday a reward of $317 000 has been offered by Nigeria’s military for help in tracking down Boko Haram’s head Abubakar Shekau and $ 63 5000 for the other suspected leaders of the group Habibu Yusuk, Khalis Albarnawai, Momodu Bama and Mohammed Zangin.
